Assembling for The Avengers

I am so late with this post, but oh well. It’s been a week today that I went to the Avengers premiere in London. I’ve been to premieres before, so I understand how they work, and how long one has to wait! I went to the Sherlock Holmes and St Trinians 2 premiere in 2009, which were both enjoyable experiences, waiting aside. But it had been a long time since I attended another, so I though Avengers Assemble would be the best one to go to.

And I arrived late. Seriously, I think all public transport was conspiring against me that day, because I arrived a full 2 hours late of schedule. Thus all the ‘decent’ places had been overcrowded by fans, and there was nowhere left for me to take my stand apart from the upper levels of the shopping centre in which this premiere was taking place.

I’m glad it wasn’t outdoors actually. If you know Britain, you know our weather.

The Calm Before the Storm...

I have to say, I never considered premieres as a creative marketing approach towards a film. But now, after experiencing the Avengers, I can honestly say a LOT of thought must go into the logistics behind one. Referring to the Sherlock Holmes premiere 3 years prior, the whole of Leicester Square was transformed into Baker Street, with lanterns, barrels, and a lot of smoke! It looked amazing, but the effort only reflects the film. Sherlock Holmes was highly anticipated… and not being harsh, but St Trinians 2’s premiere was a tad lacklustre >.<

The Avengers…. Was epic. There is no other word to describe this premiere. I was as far away as humanly possible from my favourite actors, I had not the pleasure of getting merchandise signed off, or my picture taken with the legendary Robert Downey Jr, but… I think I enjoyed it just as much as those lucky fans who grasped those opportunities.

This may have been because unlike the other 2 premieres I had attended, this one ensured the crowd was riled up and fully engaged. Which I really appreciated; the waiting time goes past so much faster when you have cameras zooming in on you at random, cosplay competitions, and camera flash mobs, all set to pretty decent music and the constant loop of the movie trailer.

Let’s play a game. It’s called “Enlarge the Picture and Spot the Hiddleston, Hemsworth, and Downey Jr” XD

Each Avenger entered the stage separately to a roar of cheers (mine) and a blast of pyrotechnical genius. Like a rock star. They had a brief interview before bracing the press and the rabid fans XD

And it’s kinda strange, but the atmosphere was SO vivacious, the hype SO extreme… that for the majority of the time, I felt as if the actors were The Avengers; they didn’t play the characters, they WERE the characters. The Avengers were very much materialised and very much able to save our world, should the danger ever arise. Much was the case for RDJ, who is like Tony Stark in every way possible, and completely belonged within that attention and clamour. He made me laugh more than any other person there. He danced for the crowd, and his opening line when he arrived was “hello, Earth people.” What an icebreaker.

RDJ didn’t play Tony Stark… Tony Stark played RDJ ;)

Tom Hiddleston listening to Elsa Pataky’s baby bump XD he’s such a doll. And he’s gonna go far.

But overall… seriously. I’m seeing the movie tomorrow, and I cannot wait. I’ve never been this excited for a movie before, and I think it’s cos if the hype could be personified, it would look and act like EVERYTHING I experienced at that premiere.

Boom. Take THAT home for dinner ;)
Best of all, I can say, for the rest of my life, that I was there, and I experienced the introduction of what is the most highly anticipated movie of our generation.

((and I didn’t make that up, apparently it really is))
